You volunteer with RIVIC, not with a single program — so as the foundation grows, your role can move with it. Right now most of the work is at the Intergenerational Confluence, and a good deal of it is building the foundation itself.

WAYS TO HELP

There is more than one

way to be useful here.

Some roles need a background check and a standing commitment.

Others need one Saturday and a pair of work gloves.

And some need an evening a month and a head for numbers.

All of it counts.

At the Confluence

OUR FIRST INITIATIVE

Sit with an elder

Conversation, card games, letter writing, a walk outside. The single most requested and most quietly powerful role we have.

2–4 HRS / MONTH · BACKGROUND CHECK

Tutor or mentor a student

Reading, math, trade & college applications, or just being a steady adult who shows up on the same day every week.

WEEKLY · BACKGROUND CHECK

Teach what you did for a living

Welding, bookkeeping, nursing, ranching, plumbing, carpentry.

Short workshops built around one real skill.

BY SESSION

Support a foster family

Meals, rides, respite childcare, and moving help for families in the middle of a placement.

AS NEEDED · BACKGROUND CHECK

Help run an event

Setup, kitchen, greeting, cleanup. Community dinners, open houses, and seasonal gatherings.

ONE-TIME OR SEASONAL

Work on the building & grounds

Painting, repairs, landscaping, garden beds. Trade skills especially welcome as we bring the building back online.

Serve on a commitee

Finance, facilities, programs, or fundraising. Professional experience welcome; a willingness to read the packet is required.

MONTHLY MEETING

Write grants or research funders

Finding the right opportunities and helping put applications together. Experience helps, but we'll train a careful writer.

Every foundation has a founding story, help us tell ours — volunteer portraits, community conversations, first partnerships.

From start to finish, this form takes about four minutes. Nothing is a commitment yet.

We call you

Within 5 business days, a short conversation about what you'd enjoy and when you're free.

Screening, if needed

Roles with elders, students, or foster families require a background check. RIVIC covers the cost.

Orientation

A 90 minute session covering RIVIC, the Confluence, and how we work.

Your first shift

You'll be paired with an experienced volunteer for your first few visits.

A note on timing: the Confluence is still in development, so some roles won't start until [the campus opens]. We'll tell you honestly where things stand when we call — and in the meantime, there is real work to do.
